REBIRTH OF THE BATH HOUSE

The intention of this proposal is not to invade or destroy; the intention of this proposal is to rebirth a building that has cultural meaning and historical importance for Latvia. The main idea of this design is to reactivate tourism through the conservation of the Bath House where the user could experience the old and the new come together. The old Bath House emerges tainted in white creating a harmonious contrast with its surroundings. The concept is to rescue and respect its original appearance, making the necessary restorations, so that it can function as a Boutique Hotel. The decision of shifting the function of the old building is due to two major reasons. First, the replacement or restoration of all water facilities to reactivate it as a bath house could end up destroying even more the infrastructure; second, a Boutique Hotel may fulfill the function of museum as well, having a cultural and learning experience. Two building are added to the project, the new Bath House and a Restaurant trying to bind together in a subtle manner. For most people a Bath House has a deeper meaning and is more than just a place to relax and purify the body, but also a place where you can purify your soul. In this proposal we seek to reflect the spirit of the place, by placing in the facades large glass walls that mimics with nature. A monumental entrance by large wooden walls interpret the path to purification of body and soul.//Esta propuesta no pretende destruir o invadir; esta propuesta pretende hacer renacer un edificio que tiene un significado cultural y una importancia histórica para Latvia. La intención es reactivar el turismo a través de la conservación de la Casa de Baño (Aguas Termales) donde el usuario pueda vivir una experiencia agradable donde lo Viejo y lo Nuevo se unen. El volumen existente renace teñido de blanco creando un contraste armonioso con su entorno. Se intenta respetar y rescatar al máximo su apariencia original, realizando las restauraciones necesarias, para que éste pueda funcionar como un hotel boutique. Se decidió modificar la función del edificio debido a dos razones. La primera, el reemplazo o restauración de todas las instalaciones hidráulicas podrían destruir aún más el edificio emblemático. La segunda, se cree que el hotel boutique puede funcionar a manera de museo, conservando algunas piezas o elementos originales del proyecto, tales como son los azulejos y tener un experiencia cultural y aprendizaje. Se crean dos edificios más, La nueva Casa de Baño y Restaurante. Ambos complejos se unen al proyecto de manera sutil sin restarle importancia al antiguo edificio. Las aguas termales es un lugar en el que uno tiene oportunidad de purificar el cuerpo y alma, es por esta razón que la propuesta trata de mimetizarse con la naturaleza de su entorno con grandes muros cristal que reflejan el espiritu del lugar. La entrada monumental de grandes muros de madera reflejan e interpretan el encaminamiento hacia la purificación.
